The February meeting is expected to open a new phase in the Commission's study of "State and Local Agency Access to Customer Information from Communication Services Providers."

The previous materials in this study have all focused on describing existing law.

At the February meeting, the Commission will begin the process of preparing proposed legislation for enactment in California. As a first step in that process, the Commission will need to decide on the general substantive objectives to be achieved in the proposed legislation.

Because the decisions at the February meeting will have a significant effect on the overall direction of the study, the Commission strongly encourages interested persons and groups to attend.
